1. Why Choose an Electric Bike?

Electric bikes add power to your pedal power enabling you to do more with a bicycle and have more fun!

Ride faster when compared to a conventional bike. You may be surprised how quickly you can get around even compared to a car. With an eBike you can avoid traffic using bike routes, maintain a higher average speed than a conventional bike, and then park (for free) extremely close to where you are going. Enjoy riding uphill and into headwinds because the electric assist helps you along. Safely get through intersections by being able to accelerate quickly from a stop. eBikes can make bike riding fun again by putting less pressure on knees, hips, and other joints.Enjoy the ride together. You may have a riding partner that rides at a different speed than you. An eBike can even out the pace for both of you.Leave the car at home. The convenience, the ease and the speed of an electric bike make it an alternative to an automobile more often than a regular bike. A study by Portland State University shows that eBike owners ride more frequently and farther than when they relied on their traditional bike.Have more fun! Riding a bicycle is already fun and when you add electric assist it becomes even more fun.

1. How far can they go?

Most electric bikes have a range of 25-50 miles and that depends on the riding conditions (hills, headwinds, etc.), how much pedal power you are providing, and how much weight you are moving (yourself + cargo).

3. How much power do electric bikes have?

Generally electric bikes in the U.S. will range from 250 watts to 1000 watts. 750 watts is the maximum power to still be a considered a Class 2 bicycle and that equates to 1 horsepower.

4. How long does it take to charge the battery?

Most electric bike batteries take approximately 3 to 6 hours to fully charge from empty, depending on the size and capacity of the battery. Smaller batteries, typically found in lightweight or commuter eBikes, tend to charge faster, while larger batteries used in high-performance or long-range models may take closer to 6 hours. For optimal performance and battery longevity, it's recommended to use the charger provided by the manufacturer and avoid overcharging.

5. Throttle or pedal assist, which is best?

Your choice between throttle and pedal assist depends on your riding style and preferences. A throttle lets you cruise effortlessly, with or without pedaling, making it great for relaxed rides or when you need a break from pedaling. Pedal assist, on the other hand, automatically provides a boost as you pedal, which many riders accustomed to traditional bikes prefer for a more natural biking experience. At California Electric Bikes, our eBikes come equipped with both throttle and pedal assist, so you don’t have to choose—enjoy the best of both systems on every ride!

6. How much do electric bikes weigh?

Electric bikes typically weigh between 45 and 60 pounds, depending on their design and components. Lightweight models, such as folding or commuter eBikes, tend to be on the lower end of the spectrum, while heavier models, like cargo or fat tire eBikes, may exceed this range. Of course, exceptions exist for ultra-lightweight or more robust designs.

7. Do the bikes come with a warranty?

Yes! We offer a warranty on all of our products. Please see warranty information:
